The Zebra Jumping Spider is a small but mighty hunter.
Only about the size of a grain of rice, it has black and white stripes like a zebra and can leap many times its own body length to catch prey. It doesn’t use a web to trap food, instead it stalks and jumps on its target using excellent vision and lightning-fast reflexes.
With eight eyes, including two large ones at the front, it can see movement and detail incredibly well for such a tiny creature.
Why They Matter
Like all spiders, they are natural pest controllers, feeding on small insects like flies and gnats. They help keep ecosystems in balance and reduce the need for chemical pesticides.
